Is the best solution just to buy another portable external hard drive and transfer everything on to that? If so any recommendations about which one to get? I'm thinking 3 or 4TB and with the USB 3.0 connector.Where can I find good instructions on how to re-format? I'd want to leave it there until I was convinced I had re-formatted the external hard drive successfully. I have a lot of wildlife photographs and video clips. Any suggestions where I can put the data safely and cheaply, even if temporarily. I have 1.5TB of data to back up if I re-format the existing Toshiba Canvio Connect external hard drive (its about 3 years old).I think I need exFAT because some of the older files were produced on a laptop running windows. My understanding is that I need to format the drive with ExFat as oth MacOS and Windows can read/write an ExFat formatted drive and I will no longer have to rely on a third party app like Tuxera.
I have now installed new Tuxera on a trial basis and I can read them but not write. When I upgraded to Catalina I thought I couldn't access the drive and they had become read only. I have an external drive which is formatted NTFS for Windows and am using Tuxera to write to the drive.
